Thank you so much for showing us some of the reliable, lower cost guns available. I own Bersas and Metro Arms 1911's. They are such a value in today's world where every penny counts. Loved the 200+ Massive Buyer's Guide or the Hottest Handguns in your Spring 2012 issue.

Hey Steve,
Thank you for providing the site. Your site reviews a variety of weapons rather then the same ol same ol (e.g. AR15) of what is hot this week (e.g. AR15). Your site also sticks to weapons as a whole and did not go the sell out reality TV format web site in place of written reviews. Nor is there any zombie nonsense! Keep up the good work!

It was with great surprise and astonishment i read "The XD is a striker-fired. delay blowback centerfire handgun....." I recommend that you keep that pistol, it must be some sort of prototype the factory accedently shipped out by mistake! I may have great collector value in the future as all production XD's to date have been locked breech short recoil action, unlocking via a modified browning link as first seen on the Browning hi-power. There have been successful delayed blowback pistols (HK P7 being the most widely known) but the XD series certainly don't belong in their ranks. For what its worth,of the "M factors listed in the article, the first 4 are standard on the original series XD (striker condition indicator, loaded chamber indicator, safety on the trigger and grip safety). Sorry if i come across a bit snotty, but I do love my XD's. I've had an original series XD9 tactical since they first came out and after 1000's of rounds it still shoots better then 2" at 20 yards with reloads, and has never missed a beat or broke. Keep up the good mag guys!

Comment on Taurus 1911 in .38 Super by James A. Howerton

I notice it's been about 3 mos since you posted your comment regarding feedback about the Taurus PT-1911. Don't know if my experience(s) are pertinent, but here goes: If you are carrying a weapon for self-defense, the 1911 is an outstanding choice, though a bit on the heavy side. As a retired Marine, I carry the 1911 in .38 Super daily. There are smaller guns available with both their pros and cons, one of which, the 9mm, you cited. The smaller the caliber (the 9mm, .38 Super and .45 ACP in order of power, from lightest to heaviest) the smaller and easier to conceal the weapon. Of course, there are trade-offs. The lighter the caliber, the weaker the caliber. Where it may take 3, 4 or 5 9mm rounds to stop an extremely large man, one .45 round will usually do the trick. The .38 Super is kind of an in-between round. It still has a high speed (approx. 1300 FPS) yet still packs a punch with the size if the bullet, itself. If you are looking just to shoot at cans and stuff (plinking) then you might consider a .22 caliber handgun. They are extremely inexpensive and companies like Chiappa make 1911's in the caliber. Good luck and good shooting!
