Greely, Pennsylvania — Established in 2012, the Kahr Firearms Group includes Auto Ordnance, Kahr Arms and Magnum Research. Two of these companies, namely Magnum Research and Auto Ordnance, recently released three new commemorative 1911 pistols. The first is a relatively simple custom build from Auto Ordnance dubbed the “G.I. Series 1911 with Case-Hardened Finish”. Apart from its unusual appearance, this model is fitted with a precision-engineered barrel that allows it to shoot with a level of accuracy that ordinary 1911s cannot. This sort of finish was commonly used decades ago but is rarely used now. By reintroducing this classic finish, Auto Ordnance brings a breath of fresh air in a cerakote-crowded market.

Auto Ordnance revives the classic case-hardened finish on a 1911 in .45 ACP, along with the signature “U.S.” military logo on wood checkered grips (TheFirearmBlog.com/blog/2018/08/17/kahr-firearms-group-squadron-1911/).

The second 1911 pistol from Auto Ordnance is the “Squadron Special Edition WW2 1911”. Designed in collaboration with gun customizer Outlaw Ordnance, this is a model that appears to pay tribute to the US Army Air Corps. WW2 historians and enthusiasts will recognize the famous “shark mouth” graphic on either side of the muzzle as a nod to WW2 fighter planes like the P40 Warhawk. Simulated rivets, faux metal plating, bright blue USAAC insignia and a black and gray weathered cerakote finish complete the look, giving this 1911 pistol the appearance of a WW2 fighter plane.

The Squadron Special Edition WW2 1911 is a tribute to our flyboys, who also carried a 1911 as their sidearm (TheFirearmBlog.com/blog/2018/08/17/kahr-firearms-group-squadron-1911/).

These two WW2-themed pistols may differ in finish, but they share the same specifications, which are as follows:

  • 5” Machined Steel barrel
  • Overall length: 8.6”
  • Weight: 2.3 lbs.
  • Sights: Blade front with drift-adjustable for windage rear sights
  • Grips: Checkered wood with U.S. military logo
  • Comes with a 7-round magazine
  • MSRP for Case-hardened finish: $1,295
  • MSRP for Squadron Special Edition: $1,106

Rounding up Kahr’s new offerings is the “Pledge” Custom Desert Eagle 1911 by Magnum Research. Apart from its appearance, this 1911 is different from the other two pistols as it’s chambered in 9mm.

Outlaw Ordnance also collaborated with Magnum Research in designing this custom 1911, and it features America’s Pledge of Allegiance in a stylish font laser-etched on the right side of the slide. The Pledge features a distressed cerakote finish and G10 grips to complete its unique appearance.

The ”Pledge” custom 1911 has the Pledge of Allegiance etched onto the slide, along with a worn cerakote finish and G10 grips. Likewise a collaboration with Outlaw Ordnance, this pistol makes for a worthy piece for patriotic gun enthusiasts (TheFirearmBlog.com/blog/2018/08/17/kahr-firearms-group-squadron-1911/).

The specs for the Pledge are as follows:

  • Barrel: 5” Machined Steel
  • Overall Length: 8.6”
  • Weight: 2.3 Lbs.
  • Capacity: Two 10-Round Magazines
  • Sights: Dove-Tailed, Blade Front w/ Horizontal Serrations & Drift Adjustable for Windage Rear
  • Finish: Cerakote Armor Black & Stormtrooper White Distressed
  • Grips: G10
  • MSRP: $1,225

While the prices of each pistol may be steep, their unique design and appearance will certainly appeal to serious gun collectors and enthusiasts. Do you think the value of these custom 1911s will increase as time passes, or are custom pistols like these just a “passing fancy”? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!
